With the season finally underway, some RVers are returning to a lot they’ve owned for years while others might be setting up camp in a new summer rental; either way, it is important that their campsite feel like home. Depending on the RV park you’re parked in, rules may vary, but generally, guests are allowed to customize and decorate their lot to their heart’s desire.

So if your first thought when you pulled into your campsite was, “Wow this looks exactly like everyone else’s sites,” or, “I wonder how my children’s new friends from the pool will be able to distinguish which site is ours when they come over for s’mores,” you’ll want to add a few personal touches.

Here are four, relatively simple ways to make your campsite your own:

Personalized Yard Sign: A custom yard sign is a great way to show off your family’s personality as well as welcome your guests. Signs can range from a personalized greeting message, to a celebration of your favorite sports team or university, and can even feature a picture of your family pet. If you’ve never explored the wonders of Etsy, I highly recommend you give it a try! This site allows you to order customized prints from artists around the world, for a reasonable price. Find the perfect representation of your family and proudly display it out front.

Decorative Outdoor Lighting: Good lighting can make a world of difference, especially when you’re spending a lot of time outdoors at night. Decorative lighting is an easy way to spice up your site while creating the perfect mood lighting for a campfire party. Your choice of lighting can range from simple string lights along the awning – these are especially handy if your rig is not equipped with outdoor LED lighting – or fun tiki torches that will help keep the hungry mosquitos at bay. A simple internet search can connect you to hundreds of kinds of outdoor lighting so you’ll certainly be able to find some that match your style. But don’t go too overboard with outdoor lighting – you wouldn’t want to interfere with your view of the stars!

Comfortable Outdoor Furniture: You likely spend a lot of time outdoors when you’re at the park, whether you’re telling ghost stories around the fire or entertaining guests, you’ll want to be comfortable. When looking for patio furniture, besides overall comfort, you’ll want to be sure to find furniture that is lightweight, durable, and easily transported – especially if your site doesn’t have a coach house for storage.

If you’re renting for a season or are planning to travel more than you’re parked, consider investing in furniture that is compactible. You’ll want something that you can fold up and put away when you’re on the move.

Be sure to explore your options before you make a purchase, find furniture in a bright color or a fun pattern to make it stand out from the rest! You’re the most carefree and fun when you’re camping, so your outdoor furniture should display that!

Insert a Durable Deck: Outdoor rugs and mats are a dime-a-dozen, not to mention they can get wet and dirty pretty quickly. So instead of going the traditional route, why not explore the possibilities of a customizable deck? Amazon and The Home Depot (search for “interlocking outdoor patio tiles” or “interlocking deck tiles”) offer a wide array of options – colors, sizes, and materials – to fit any campsite. These lightweight, interlocking tiles are not only extremely durable, they’re far most cost-effective than many other options on the market. They’re especially useful if you have a large rig and a small cement plot because they can be easily placed over grass.
