As campers, outdoorsmen, and Michiganders, we have all grown up surrounded by the beauty of the forests. Whether you spent your time climbing the tallest trees throughout your youth, or resting under their shade after a long hike, or simply using their limbs to fuel your campfire; we have all come to know trees enrich our lives as much as they support it.
So as a way to pay homage to one of natures most stunning and essential resources, today we celebrate Arbor Day – a day to do our part to help preserve Michigan’s abundant forests. So how can you get involved?
There are a number of ways to help support the cause:
- Plant a tree of your own! Visit The Arbor Day Foundation for tips on selecting a good spot to plant a tree, what kind of tree works best in a given location, and other key factors to take into consideration when planting.
- Make a Donation. There are many great causes and organizations dedicated to caring for and preserving our Nation’s forests; any donation, big or small, is always appreciated.
- Educate your children on the importance of tree conservation. Use today as a way to bond with your child while teaching them the importance of reducing our carbon footprints.
- Volunteer. Spend the day making a difference. Again, there are many organizations and associations across the state that could use an extra set of hands!
- Attend an event. The Michigan Arbor Day Alliance has a calendar of family-friendly Arbor Day Events, available to the public, across the state.
Does your family have any plans to celebrate Arbor Day 2016? If so, share the details in our comments section on our Facebook page!
