OKEMOS, Mich.— There are many factors to take into consideration when deciding what type of recreation vehicle is going to be right for you. Motorized or towable? Class A or C? Folding camper or travel trailer? With so many options, how do you know which type of RV is going to be the right one? Some experience RV travel for the first time by renting one. Many RV dealers offer rental options, allowing you the opportunity to try-before-you-buy.
RV vacations offer greater control and a flexible way to travel, allowing you to take with you all
the comforts of home. The Michigan Association of Recreation Vehicles and Campgrounds
(MARVAC) has more than 20 member dealers who offer state-of-the-art RV rentals in a range of
sizes and styles. The type, size and available features vary by dealer. Folding campers, travel
trailers and motorhomes are available for rent. Now, before you worry about deciding which one
to rent, your RV rental dealer will help you make a selection, as well as demonstrate how to
operate the unit, before you leave for your trip. Often, RV rental dealers will deliver and set up a
unit at the campground or location of your choice for you—no towing necessary.
Motorhomes average $90 to $200 per day; folding campers and travel trailers average $50 to
$120 per day. Remember, this fee includes what you would normally spend on transportation,
sleeping accommodations and so much more. Some dealers offer packages of three to 10 days.
RV vacations are more affordable than traveling by personal car, airline or cruise ship, even with
higher gasoline prices, according to a recent study by PKF Consulting.
RV rentals have certainly increased in popularity among consumers. The RV Rental Association
(RVRA) reports significant growth in domestic rentals since 2015. RVs that sleep four are the
most popular rented vehicle and people are renting units for longer trips—from three nights to
four to seven nights. The RV rental business is a more than $350 million industry.
