There’s a new term floating around the camping industry: (Re)Creation Vacation. This is just a fancy way of saying people want to return to places where they already have made good memories. It’s interesting to wonder why this so-called trend is growing. This article will explore that – and the reasons all tie together.

Familiarity

While the initial post-COVID years were full of people making up for lost time and visiting places they’ve never seen before, these days, people are returning their focus to returning to places they have already visited in the past. One big reason for this is the sense of familiarity. It’s simpler to plan a getaway to a place you’ve already been, because you’ve already done all the research and leg work. You know what you can expect. You know what you liked doing the last time, and you know what you would like to do or see that you missed the first time around. Most places cannot be fully explored in one trip. Each journey brings new adventures, insights, and opportunities – even if it’s at a place you’ve been to before.

Relaxation & Downtime

Familiarity relates directly to being able to relax. When you’ve explored an area before, there’s less urgency to go out and try to do everything and anything. You can better relax, which is a big reason many of us got into RVing in the first place. You can have that long morning or spread your towel out at the beach for a while. There can be much more downtime, and that becomes a higher priority than being on the go. In this day and age, it seems like our minds and bodies have to be in constant motion, always doing something. But it’s difficult to maintain a sense of calm, manage mental health, and truly relax when we have all that pressure on us. Returning to a place you already know is soothing for the mind and body and offers a respite from all of that.

Break from Everyday Routine

Our everyday routines can be stressful, depressing, or even mundane. Sure, life has its happy and joyful moments, too, especially if you have a good attitude; however, there’s something about breaking free from the everyday routine that is rejuvenating to us so that we can continue to take on life valiantly. Embarking on a (re)creation vacation shakes things up just enough that it’s not overly stressful to plan, the days less planned once you get there, and lets you simply be around nature and around people you love most without all the “normal” pressures of home life and work.

Digital Detox

Back in the day, when many of us now-adults went camping as children, there were no cell phones and laptops. All these modern conveniences – cell phones and WiFi in particular – have put a big burden on people mentally as well as strained personal relationships. So let a (re)creation vacation take you back to the old days before all that technology. Put the phones away, leave the laptops at home, put on the Out of Office reply and don’t look back. Direct your efforts into strengthening the relationships with those around you and providing your children or grandchildren with a break from screens. You’ll have a much better time together if you do.

Given all these reasons, it’s not surprising that more people are turning their sights to this type of vacation. Taking a nostalgic trip with the RV can be a great way to unwind, reconnect, and build on old memories. You’ll feel your stress level reduce, your mind open up, and your spirit rejuvenate. Return to a destination that means something to you or someone in your family – and you’ll receive all the mental and physical benefits as well as create new memories.
