WEBSITE: www.michigan.org/property/bald-mountain-recreation-area/ Thirty-nine miles north of the heart of Detroit is the Bald Mountain Recreation Area comprising of more than 4,000 acres of fields, forests,
and lakes. According to Michigan Trail Maps.com, the best hiking can be found in the North Unit, where there are eight miles of trail. There are several loops to choose from, but the 3.6-mile Orange Loop – also
known as Graham Lakes Trail – offers hikers the most scenic overlooks of the area’s lakes, ponds, and wetlands. With orange, red, and yellow trees reflecting on the surface of the water, it’s a scene any artist would appreciate capturing. Other trails in the North Unit include the White Loop and the Blue Loop; the 4.8-mile Red Loop is in the South Unit.
